Who We Are
Welcome to the Stanford Female Athlete Science and Translational Research (FASTR) Program, led by Dr. Emily Kraus. Committed to closing the gender gap in sports science research, our program conducts original research on female athletes while translating these findings into practical insights for female athletes and their advocates. By delving into the unique needs of women in sports, we’re helping to reshape the sports science landscape and address the unique challenges female athletes face through rigorous research. Join us in driving positive change, promoting inclusivity, and elevating the potential of female athletes through scientific innovation and actionable information.

Our Vision
We Believe…
We believe in creating an inclusive environment for all girls and women in sports. Your health in and out of sport is important, and this material is for you.
Our goal is that the FASTR platform can inform, inspire, and empower female athletes of all levels and backgrounds. We believe that universal access to research-led and science-driven knowledge is just as essential to health and longevity in sport as the gear you use and wear. We hope to arm female athletes with the information needed to inspire confidence in your unique physiology.
Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance
Our research is supported by the Stanford Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance, a collaborative research initiative that seeks to improve the health and well-being of all people through the study of peak human performance. The Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance is an interdisciplinary effort made up of six primary hubs leading cutting edge research to advance this field of study and translate it into practice in sports medicine and beyond. The six hubs include Stanford University, Boston Children’s Hospital, The University of Kansas, University of Oregon, the Salk Institute, and University of California San Diego.
The Female Athlete Program at Boston Children’s Hospital
The FASTR research team works in partnership with the Female Athlete Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, led by Dr. Kate Ackerman. This partnership brings together experts in sports medicine, epidemiology, psychology, social work, nutrition, and more to address all aspects of female athlete health and performance.
